Access to basic services and accommodation, local integration strategies and multilevel co-ordination were among the topics discussed by the Community of Practice on migration and human rights at local level, at its second meeting held in Bucharest, Romania, on 23 November 2023.
Members of the Community of Practice* shared their concrete experiences and discussed good practices related to inclusive policymaking, social mapping, and intercultural dialogue and integration. They highlighted the key role local authorities and their national associations play in upholding and protecting human rights of migrants and refugees.
The Community of Practice agreed on the development of a practical tool for emergency response, and on the need to further co-operate on resilience with Ukrainian peers.
*The Community of Practice gathers together representatives of Hrubieszow, Rzeszów and Wrocław (Poland), Edinet, Straseni and Vinogradovca (Republic of Moldova), Bogdan Vodă, Măgurele and Tulcea (Romania), as well as representatives from the Association of Polish Cities, the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova, and the Association of Communes of Romania.
This event was organised in the framework of the project “Strengthening resilience in local and regional authorities facing migration challenges”, implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities within the Council of Europe Action Plan on Protecting Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe, with the financial contribution of Germany.
