“The challenges faced by local and regional authorities are the same in the North and South of the Mediterranean,' stressed Piero Fassino (Italy, SOC), Thematic Spokesperson of the Congress on the South-Med Partnership, speaking at the session on strengthening the North-South Dialogue of the Lisbon Forum 2017 (1-2 June). Recalling the Congress experience in advancing local and regional democracy, he underlined the need to promote dialogue and exchanges to encourage the flow of ideas and improve governance serving people on both sides of the Mediterranean. “The North-South Centre, with its unique format of quadrilogue, offers the appropriate framework for strengthening this dialogue,” he concluded. The South-Med Partnership is a Congress programme of co-operation with Morocco and Tunisia, established in February 2017.
