The certification ceremony of Via Charlemagne Cultural Route took place on the 4th July in the headquarters of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The certificate awarding the “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” certification was handed over on behalf of the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe by the Executive Secretary of the EPA on Cultural Routes, Stefano Dominioni, to the Board of Directors of the Via Charlemagne (in the picture).
The Via Charlemagne aims to present the historic sites linked to the figure of Charlemagne and the rich heritage of legends and traditions related to this European figure, bringing together members from Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland.
The route obtained its certification during the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) meeting in Luxembourg, on 18-19th April 2018. This certification, together with the Impressionisms Routes -certified in 2018 as well-, brings the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme to 33 certified routes.
After receiving the certification, the Via Charlemagne has just obtained the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage by the french Ministry of Culture and a grant from the ERASMUS + programme of 155,000 euros to organize with 4 other European countries meetings high schools and colleges on the theme of the anniversaries of the year: 768 coronation of Charlemagne, among others.
In addition, the Community of Communes of Ardennes Rives de Meuse has made available to the Route the Fort Givet Charlemont to hold the training of seventeen French, Belgian and Luxembourg trainees who will be trained to accompany future visitors to the Via Charlemagne.
