Junior Crystal Scales of Justice Prize awarded at the CEPEJ plenary meeting

The award ceremony for the Junior Crystal Scales of Justice Prize took place during the 42nd plenary meeting of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ), held in Strasbourg on June 18 and 19, 2024. The winning team of students from the Faculty of Law at Leiden University (Netherlands) was invited to present their project (link to project) to the CEPEJ's member states and observers.

This prize, organized jointly by the CEPEJ and the Faculty of Law of Strasbourg, complements the Crystal Scales of Justice Prize, a European prize for innovative practices contributing to the efficiency and quality of justice.

Students were invited to put together a research and legal analysis file highlighting the innovative aspects of one of the awarded projects from the previous year's CEPEJ Crystal Scales of Justice Prize, while studying its possible transposition to another context. The shortlisted candidate teams were then invited to defend their projects orally before a jury.

The winning team defended an initiative by the Court of appeal of Mons (Belgium) regarding the establishment of a "Civil and criminal chamber specialised in environmental and urbanism matters”, which was rewarded by the CEPEJ in 2023.

The prize was officially awarded by Mr Jean-Paul Jean, President of the Jury, Mrs Jeanne-Marie Tuffery-Andrieu, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Strasbourg, and Mr Francesco Depasquale, President of the CEPEJ.
