The European Barnahus Movement is launched on the 14th June 2017 in Brussels in the framework of the PROMISE project implemented by the Council of the Baltic Sea States. Claude Janizzi, Chairman of the Committee of the Parties (“the Lanzarote Committee”) to the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, is amongst the key speakers of the event.
The first Barnahus (Children’s House) in Europe was established in 1998 in Iceland. It has been recognized by the Lanzarote Committee in its first implementation report on the Protection of children against sexual abuse in the circle of trust (2015) as a good practice model for multi-disciplinary and interagency services for child victims and witnesses of violence, providing children with access to justice, avoiding re-victimization and ensuring high professional standards for their recovery.
