The Council of Europe participated in an introductory webinar on the international workshop on Barnahus Model, a child friendly multidisciplinary and interagency response model for the investigation and treatment of child sexual abuse, organised in the context of the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO). The expected outcome of the workshop (a series of three events) will be development of ISO International Workshop Agreement (IWA) guidelines to support states across the globe in putting in place the Barnahus Model.
This model was identified by the Lanzarote Committee (Committee of Parties to the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse) as a promising practice in 2015. As a result, a number of Council of Europe member states have benefitted from support by the Council of Europe and the European Commission DG Reform to introduce and implement this adaptable model to strengthen their response to preventing sexual violence against children and to support children in having access to justice when they have been victims or witnesses of violence, especially sexual violence.
