When states require assistance to secure implementation of Council of Europe standards in the area of children’s rights, the Council is able to offer its expertise through co-operation projects. For this purpose the Council of Europe has field, programme and liaison duty stations throughout the whole of Europe. The country co-operation in the area of children’s rights is carried out by way of projects which are developed and implemented with the support of the Directorate  of Programme Coordination.

In order to increase outreach and secure better visibility of Council of Europe standards, the Council of Europe co-operates with other international and regional bodies working in the field of children’s rights such as the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, UNICEF, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children, the Council of Baltic Sea States, the Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography and the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The Council of Europe’s work on children’s rights would not be possible without the close co-operation with non-governmental organisations (NGOs). We work with a broad range of individual NGOs as well as umbrella organisations such as Eurochild. Children’s Rights are also addressed by the Conference of International Non-governmental Organisations at the Council of Europe.
