The Council of Europe and the City of Strasbourg organised the 6th session of the Strasbourg Dialogues with Robert Badinter. This session highlighted France's progress towards acceptance of the right of individual petition before the European Court of Human Rights.
Robert Badinter, a great witness and agent of this development, gave his own construction of the facts and the place of France (a founding country of the Council of Europe) in the furtherance of civil and political liberties in Europe. His statement was also an occasion to take stock of the application of the European Convention on Human Rights in France and to cast a glance towards the future. The debate was moderated by the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Jean-Paul Costa.
