Purpose:

The project aims to fight against discrimination and violence linked to the gender and cultural differences.

Specific objectives:

SO1: Increasing the awareness of the youth between 11 and 30 years on the forms of violence and discrimination in the European and extra-European territories as well as encouraging their active participation in the spreading of an inclusive non-discriminating culture, using mutual learning and peer education.

SO2: Strengthening awareness-raising among the European and extra-European public on individual responsibility through a campaign against discrimination and violence.

Stimulus/Rationale:

The project’s mission is to encourage all members of the society to actively contribute to the prevention of any form of violence, implementing actions on themes such as gender equality, non-stereotyped gender roles, mutual respect, non-violent solution of the conflicts in the interpersonal relationships and violence against women.

The target group of the initiative are:

• Young Educators [YE] between 19 and 30 years

• High School Students [HSS] between 15 and 18 years

• Grammar School Students [GSS] between 11 and 14 years

R&C’s partners intend to increase the awareness and understanding on gender and ethnic (cultural) discrimination, starting from the shared idea that fighting discrimination is a universal responsibility. Cities, Municipalities and Provinces, Municipal Consortiums, CSOs, as well as of the multi-stakeholder groups, are grouped in the partnership in order to contribute to the sustainable inclusive development as well as to the promotion of human rights, social responsibility and gender equality.

The target groups and the beneficiaries (mainly youth, i.e. the adults of tomorrow) will receive input and support to improve their critical understanding of today’s inter-connected and globalized world.

Gender equality and migration shall be the cross-cutting themes that will accompany the activities throughout the three years (Relationships, Discrimination and Violence) based on the 2015 Report on the Policy Coherence for Development stating that «violence and insecurity have threatened sustainable development and the achievement of the MDGs».

Process:

R&C is coherent with the guidelines of the Council of Europe convention on the prevention and fight against the violence towards women and domestic violence (Istanbul 2011), and covers the issue of discrimination and violence of gender and against the so-called "outsiders" (by race, origin, culture, religion, nationality or language). The project makes a particular reference to migration, promoting changes in the social and cultural behaviour of women and men in order to eliminate prejudice, customs, traditions and any other practice based on the principles of inferiority or on stereotyped patterns of the social roles.

Partners in the project are the Mayor’s Cabinet in Turin, the Scuola Formazione Educazione Permanente – SFEP (Agency for training of the City of Turin) and the Area Giovani e Pari Opportunità – Department Youth and Equal Opportunities.
