Назад Salisbury’s effective measures to combat discrimination

Purpose: The Australian City of Salisbury adopted “The Fair Treatment Policy” and signed the “Refugee Welcome Zone Declaration”

Process:

The City Council adopted a policy called “The Fair Treatment Policy” which outlines that unfair discrimination is prohibited and prescribes the “Fair Treatment Contact Officers” who are trained to provide support and information.

The monitoring is assigned to the private organisation “Intercultural Connections” which monitor and research the extent and the character of discrimination in the city and works closely with the City authorities. Their duties include monitoring media discrimination as well as community outreach information sessions to public, staff, community centres, sport and recreation centres.

The City of Salisbury runs regular anti-discrimination campaigns. Other promotions to the staff including community events and publications in the “Salisbury Aware” magazine have helped to generate further awareness about the campaign and the discrimination.

Another good practice from the City of Salisbury which aims at discrimination is the signing of the “Refugee Welcome Zone Declaration”. This document is a commitment to welcome refugees into the community, to uphold the human rights of refugees, to demonstrate compassion for refugees and to enhance diversity in the community. “Refugee Welcome Zones” is an initiative of the national body Refugee Council of Australia.
