Belong - The Cohesion and Integration Network is a national charity and independent membership organisation based in Manchester and founded in 2019. Their vision is a more integrated and less divided society.
Belong is the UK’s leading membership organisation on social cohesion and integration, offering academic research, consultancy, training, networking, thought leadership and events for members across the public, private and charitable sector in the UK.
What do Belong mean by cohesion and integration? For Belong social cohesion and integration are terms that describe how well people from different backgrounds mix, interact and get along with each other. It is about building a society where difference is welcomed and celebrated, and where divisions, discrimination and inequalities are tackled. These are issues that affect all. Strong social connections, trust and bonds between different groups and communities help to develop a stronger, inclusive and resilient society. One which can move beyond narratives of “us” and “them” towards ideas of trust, shared identity and a sense of belonging.
Belong’s mission is to:
- Connect people, places and organisations across all sectors and localities in the UK through membership of the network to disseminate knowledge and best practice on social cohesion and integration.
- Support and develop all those who are delivering cohesion, integration and intercultural work; giving them the resources, skills, inspiration and confidence to lead and champion this vital work.
- With their members raise the profile of this vital work, developing a shared voice, improving practice and influencing policy so that together we can make an integrated society an everyday reality.
