High Level Cross-Regional Meeting on the
Protection of Children from Sexual Violence
Regional action to support the global agenda to stop sexual violence against children

The Council of Europe is pleased to host the 5th High-Level Cross-Regional Round Table on Violence against Children in its headquarters in Strasbourg.
Convened each year by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Violence against Children Marta Santos Pais, the Round Table gathers regional organizations and institutions to discuss and promote progress in the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children.
Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General
Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni and SRSG Marta Santos Pais will welcome participants from organisations such as the African Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Caribbean Community, the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the European Union, the Latin-American and Caribbean Movement for Children (MMILAC), the League of Arab States, the Organization of American States and the South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children.
The meeting will focus on the prevention and elimination of sexual violence against children and will be divided into three specific thematic sessions:

sexual abuse of children in the circle of trust;

protection of children from sexual abuse through information and communication technologies;

strengthening international cooperation for the protection of children from sexual violence.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography Maud de Boer-Buquicchio will address the participants who also include representatives from governments, human rights institutions, academia and civil society.
During the Round Table, the participating regional organisations and institutions will also discuss their vision for the protection of children from violence in 2016 and beyond, in particular in view of the post-2015 sustainable development agenda.
