Forum 2006 – Achieving social cohesion in a multicultural Europe

Organisers

European Commission

Within their own areas of responsibility, the Council of Europe and the European Commission are both also involved in building a multicultural Europe capable of ensuring the well-being of all of its citizens and the mutually enriching coexistence of individuals and groups from different cultures. The most recent examples involve the launch by the European Union of the European Year of Equal Opportunities and by the Council of Europe of a White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue.

Co-financed by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Employment, the 2006 Forum ties in fully with this joint approach. The Forum structure and the themes and perspectives to be considered were drawn up by a working group comprising many European experts, representatives of institutions and associations, members of various Council of Europe directorates and a representative of the European Commission.
