EXPERTS

Prof. Heinz-Jürgen Axt [Presentation]
holds the Jean Monnet Chair for Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He is Director of the Jean Monnet Research Group, Vice-Chairman of the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft, Munich, Head of the Duisburg branch of the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft, Member of the Board of the German Centre of Turkish Studies and member of the International Advisory Board of the “Cyprus Review”. He has published numerous works on Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.

Prof. Dr. Dieter Bingen
was born in 1952. Since 1999, he has been Director of the German Poland-Institute, 1979 Ph.D. at Bonn University. Teaching fellow for Political Science at Bonn University (1984- 1994), Honorary Professor at the Technical University Zittau-Görlitz. Member of the European Academy of Science and Arts (since 2000), Member of the jury of the Leipzig Book Award on European Understanding (since 2003),Member of the Advisor Board of DIALOG. German-Polish Magazine (since 2006), Award of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland “for outstanding merits on Poland’s promotion in the World.

Prof. Wlodzimierz Borodziej
was born in 1956; he is Professor at the Institute of History, Warsaw University; Ph.D. (1984) and second Ph.D. (1991); 1997 - 2007 Co-chairman of the Polish-German Textbook Commission; 1999 - 2002 Vice-Rector for International and Public Relations, Warsaw University. Member of several boards including Zeitschrift für Ostmitteleuropaforschung (Marburg).

Dr. Samir Farah [Presentation]
is Head of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation Beyrouth since 1987. He is a journalist and sociologist by training and worked on different programmes promoting democracy the strengthening of civil society and dialogue in the Middle East. In 2003 he was awarded by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany the Federal Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) for promoting the values of Freedom and Democracy in the Middle East.

Dr. James Ker-Lindsay
is Senior Research Fellow at Kingston University, specializing on Greek-Turkish Relations and the Cyprus Issue. Prior to this, he served as the Co-ordinator of the Greek-Turkish Forum at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies. In addition to speaking on Greek-Turkish issues at numerous conferences, he is also a regular commentator for the international media and co-editor of “The Cyprus Review”. From 2001-2005, he covered Cypriot politics for the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Mr René van der Linden
born in 1943, was President of PACE from 2005 to 2009. He is a member of the Dutch Parliament since 1977 and of PACE since 1989. From 1986 to 1989 he was Dutch Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for European Affairs.

Mrs Ria Oomen Ruijten
is a Dutch politician and Member of the European Parliament. She is a member of the Christian Democratic Appeal, a member of the bureau of the EPP-ED group. She is Chairwoman of the Delegation to EU Russia Parliamentary Co-operation Committee and sits on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she is the rapporteur on Turkey. She also sits on the European Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. She is also a substitute for the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, a member of the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China, a substitute for the delegation for relations with the United States, and a member of the temporary committee on policy challenges and budgetary means of the enlarged Union 2007–2013.

Dr. Fabian Zuleeg [Presentation]
is a Senior Policy Analyst at the European Policy Centre (EPC) in Brussels. Before he was Associate Director at DTZ Consulting and Research and Economic Adviser to the Scottish Executive. He contributes regularly to the European policy debate on questions of European economic policy.
