The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) held its 114th plenary meeting from 1 to 5 July 2024.

During this meeting, the CPT adopted the reports on its periodic visit to the Slovak Republic (November-December 2023) and on its ad hoc visits to France overseas (French Guiana and Guadeloupe) (November-December 2023), Italy (April 2024), Lithuania (February 2024), Switzerland (March 2024) and Türkiye (February 2024).

These reports will be transmitted in due course to the respective authorities.[1]

The CPT also decided to issue a public statement in respect of Azerbaijan pursuant to Article 10, paragraph 2, of the CPT Convention.

In addition, the CPT heard oral reports on recent visits carried out to Czechia (April 2024), Denmark (May-June 2024), Ireland (May 2024), Latvia (May 2024) and Norway (May 2024).

Other topics relevant to its mandate were also discussed, including the responses of States to the visit reports of the Committee and the programme of future visits and high-level talks for 2024 and 2025. The Committee also reviewed the internal organisation of its work.
