On 14 February, the Department for the Execution of Judgments participated in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (which examines the compliance by member States with the European Charter of Local Self–Government). This exchange of views was organised as a follow-up to the Reykjavík Declaration, in which the Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe invited the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to strengthen the political dialogue with the respective national interlocutors on the implementation of judgments.
During the exchange of views, the Department gave a presentation on the execution process and provided positive examples where the involvement of local and regional authorities played a role in the execution of the European Court of Human Rights' judgments. The discussions further focused on how the Congress could contribute to execution of judgments, and the Monitoring Committee expressed its intention to develop further synergies with the Department.
