Tenerife is the largest (2.034.36 km2) and most populated (897.582 inhabitants in January 2013) of the Canarias archipelago. Its economy is based on the tourism sector, due to the fact that it received around 5 million visits in 2013 particularly from the European continent.

 

In January 2024, Tenerife's population counted 959 189 inhabitants, of which 469 351 are men and 489 838 women. Out of the total, 75.23% of its inhabitants are Spanish from birth, with 67.28% born on the Canary Islands and 7.95% born in another Spanish territory. Out of the total, 24.7% were born abroad. The largest minority groups come from the Americas (13.37%) and from Europe (9.08%). Specifically, 5.94% of Tenerife's inhabitants come from Venezuela and 2.85% from Cuba. From Europe, the following data has been collected: 1.41% comes from the UK, 1.12% from Germany and 2.24% from Italy, which has become in the last years the most common foreign European nationality in the island.
