The Committee of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Committee) held its 41^st plenary meeting in Strasbourg from 13 to 15 February 2024.

Following this meeting, the Committee adopted its 8^th Activity Report covering the period from 3 February 2023 to 15 February 2024. Several major achievements marked the past year, including:

• launch of the 3rd monitoring round on the “Protection of children against sexual abuse in the circle of trust”;
• preparation of joint Council of Europe – ECPAT International Country Overviews with pilot countries (Finland, Italy and the Republic of Moldova) suggesting concrete actions to end the sexual exploitation and abuse of children;
• publication of country and thematic factsheets to raise awareness and facilitate the implementation of the Committee’s 2^nd monitoring round findings on “Addressing the challenges raised by child self-generated sexual images and/or videos”;
• decision to prepare opinions to guide State Parties on the statute of limitations in respect of sexual offences against children and the legal age for sexual activities;
• and the decision to address urgent questions to the Russian Federation on the situation of Ukrainian children unlawfully transferred or deported to its territory or to areas temporarily controlled or occupied by it.

During its 41^st meeting the Committee revised its workplan for 2024 and started analysing the replies received to the Legal Frameworks Questionnaire of the 3^rd monitoring round. The Committee decided on the next phases of the current monitoring round and on a methodology for the assessment of the State Parties compliance with the 2^nd monitoring round recommendations. The Committee also adopted a Survey on data collection mechanisms regarding child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse and sent it to Parties for their replies.
