Promoting Human Rights and Equality for LGBTI people
Discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity and the denial of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI) people is prevalent in all European countries.
The LGBTI project provides technical support and assistance to member states according to their needs: support for legislative changes, capacity building, resource materials and exchanges of good practices between different member states. The Council of Europe’s work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of LGBTI people is based on the Committee of Minister’s Recommendation CM/Rec2010(5) to member states on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
