Linz Conference – 2nd Council of Europe Platform Exchange on Culture and Digitisation
"Smart Creativity, Smart Democracy"
4-5 September 2015, Linz, Austria
The Council of Europe together with Ars Electronica is organising the second Platform Exchange on Culture and Digitisation “Smart Creativity, Smart Democracy” in Linz, Austria 4-5 September 2015.
The Platform Exchange will explore how digitisation can best be used for facilitating access to and participation in culture and creativity, with a view to strengthening democratic participation. It will identify recent innovative digital applications, lessons learnt in establishing these and look at experiences with audience engagement in digital creativity.
The results of the Platform Exchange will subsequently be assembled into a compendium of good practices for boosting digital participation and creativity for dissemination and promotion in the member States.
Ars Electronica, an enterprise of the city of Linz, is a pioneering cultural institution focusing on the interaction between art, technology and society (see also http://www.aec.at/news/en/). This year’s festival theme is “Habitats for the 21st Century”. The festival will ensure a multitude of synergies for the Platform Exchange.
Background
Digitisation is shaping the 21st century: not only in terms of new technology, but also in terms of our information environment’s culture, and is having a significant impact on our societies. In this context, the Council of Europe has highlighted the importance of users’ individual and collective needs, the risks for European cultural diversity and the need for adequate conditions for cultural content production and creativity. Future cultural policy will need to tune into the digital world if it is to continue ensuring the widest possible access to and participation in culture and full usage of the opportunities for individual and collective creativity.
