New report addressing future challenges to human rights

“We should be better prepared to address future human rights challenges that may be on, or even beyond the horizon. This report is an excellent tool to address future human rights challenges in today´s fast-changing security and geopolitical context,” said the Deputy Secretary General at the presentation of the report entitled "Enhancing the Resilience of Human Rights through Strategic Foresight" at a side event in the margins of the summer session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assemby (PACE).

The report, published by the Finnish Human Rights Centre, identifies threats faced by human rights actors and outlines possibilities for strengthening their resilience and independence. It also offers tools for human rights foresight and for integrating human rights into general foresight activities and future planning.

The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty addressed the event via a video message and other speakers included Sini Paukkunen-Mykkänen, Permanent Representative of Finland to the Council of Europe, Saara-Sofia Sirèn, Deputy Chair, Finnish Delegation to PACE, Lauri Sivonen, the Finnish Human Rights Centre and Maiju Lehto, Advisor, Deaconess Foundation, Finland. The latter delivered an interesting presentation on inclusiveness, i.e. on new methods and materials to make participation in the discussions on the future more accessible to a larger group of people.
