"The Council of Europe focuses on the memory transmission: the link between past and present, the concepts of tolerance, non-discrimination and active citizenship", said Gabriella Battaini Dragoni while welcoming the participants to the European Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust and prevention of crimes against humanity. The commemoration took place at the Youth Centre on Sunday, January 27th, on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau camp by the Red Army in 1945.

"The Council of Europe is committed, through its programmes, on the duty of memory awareness among teachers and teacher educators, cultural actors, media and young people across Europe", underlined the Deputy Secretary General at the opening of the international conference "La Shoah par balles", organised in co-operation with the Alsace Region and the European Centre of Deported Resistance Members.
