In the margins of the 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, the Council of Europe is organising a side-event on Threats and Opportunities of Digital Technologies: Women in the Public Eye. The event is co-organised with the Permanent Mission of Luxembourg to the United Nations, during the Luxembourg Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. The -event will look at how to stop digital violence becoming the norm and how to ensure that the voices of high-profile women engaged in public or political activism are heard. It will explore promising public and private sector initiatives to prevent and combat digital violence against women and to facilitate its reporting in line with Council of Europe standards. The Council of Europe’s current work to develop standards to enhance accountability will also be explored. The event is bringing together political leaders, journalists, international partners, tech industry representatives and civil society. It will be opened by Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Minister of Defence and Minister for Mobility and Public Works.
