On 19 October 2018 the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Ms Lyudmyla Denisova and members of her Office took part in a visit organised under the scope of the project “Enhancing the implementation of human right standards in Ukraine” which is part of the Council of Europe Action plan for Ukraine.
The visit aimed at providing with a closer insight into the work of the Council of Europe and offered an opportunity to exchange experience with the experts from the different parts of the European Convention spectrum, namely the Council of Europe monitoring and cooperation bodies. The delegation also had the opportunity to discuss potential new cooperation with the Council of Europe.
The Council of Europe representatives during the meetings with Ms Denisova underlined, that the core part of the Ombudsperson’s mandate is to act as a human rights protection mechanism in Ukraine. It was stressed that the adherence to the European human rights standards is of crucial importance and should be a core of its activities.
It is expected that consolidated efforts of the Council of Europe and the Ombudsperson will result in further improvement of collaboration in the prevention of ill-treatment; data protection legislation; non-discrimination, as well as Ombudsperson’s interactions with relevant state authorities and the civil society in Ukraine.
