Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, addressing PACE today in the framework of Croatia’s Chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, underlined that all member States must unequivocally implement the Council’s shared standards.
He expressed his support for ongoing measures to strengthen the authority of the European Court of Human Rights, its case-law and its judges, and reiterated that the Court’s binding judgments should be fully respected by all.
Recalling the importance of the Council’s values, he urged all member states to fully respect their obligations, including financial ones, adding: “It is our right and duty to respond appropriately to cases of non-compliance.”
The Prime Minister also reminded parliamentarians of his country’s priorities in chairing the Organisation: fighting corruption, protecting national minorities, favouring decentralisation, and promoting cultural heritage.
