New publication in Azerbaijani: Handbook for parliamentarians to end violence against women

National parliaments have an important role to play in preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence thanks to their mandate, including passing legislation and monitoring its implementation. It is therefore relevant for Parliamentarians to familiarise themselves with existing international standards to ensure that domestic legislation is aligned with it and guarantees that the rights of citizens are protected.

A new publication has been made available in Azerbaijani highlighting the importance of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, the Istanbul Convention, as a gold standard in the field. This tool seeks to provide practical information for parliamentarians on the principles established in the Istanbul Convention, as well as on how to promote it in order to contribute to ending violence against women in their own countries.

The Azerbaijani translation of the publication “The Istanbul Convention – a powerful tool to end gender-based violence. A handbook for parliamentarians on the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence” can be found here.

This translation was prepared in the framework of the project “Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan,” funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II 2019-2022.
