The 8th European Arthouse Cinema Day celebrates cinemas and European film culture worldwide on 12 November 2023.

European Arthouse Cinema Day is a day of action for arthouse cinemas around the globe. Over 600 venues in almost 40 countries (from Europe to South Korea and Mexico) will celebrate cinemas and European filmmaking, creating an international platform to showcase their contributions to cultural diversity.

Once again, participating cinemas across the world invite their visitors to experience the cinema as a cultural venue during this annual one-day global event. There will be individual special events including premieres, previews, Q&As with filmmakers, actors or special guests as well as other tailored programmes including special screenings for children and young audiences. Last year, around 60,000 viewers attended and over 250 films were showcased at the day’s events alone.

Eurimages is proud to support European Arthouse Cinema Day through the Fund’s Promotion Programme. Numerous films funded by Eurimages will be screened in the participating cinemas including European Film Award nominees CHICKEN FOR LINDA! by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach, GREEN BORDER by Agnieszka Holland and ROBOT DREAMS by Pablo Berger.

The European Arthouse Cinema Day is organised by the CICAE and its member associations and is internationally funded by the Creative Europe MEDIA programme of the European Union, Eurimages, the German Federal Film Board and Europa Cinemas. It takes place during the Month of European Film.
