No less than 13 films supported by the Eurimages Fund have been selected in the various categories of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, to be held from 28 August to 7 September 2024.
Two co-productions supported by Eurimages have been selected for the official competition: VERMIGLIO (FR, BE) by Maura Delpero and the last part of the trilogy YOUTH (HOMECOMING) by Wang Bing, a co-production between France, Luxembourg, China and the Netherlands.
Also selected out of competition are the Italian-French drama IL TEMPO CHE SI VUOLE (LIFE FIRST) by Francesca Comencini and the documentaries BESTIARIES, HERBARIA, LAPIDARIES (IT,CH) by Massimo D'Anolfi and Martina Parenti, THINGS WE SAID TODAY (RO, FR) by Andrei Ujica and the film SONGS OF SLOW BURNING EARTH (UA, DK, SE) by Olha Zhurba, which received support from Eurimages as part of the Ukrainian Institute's proMOTION programme.
Four co-productions supported by the Eurimages Fund have been selected in the Festival's Orizzonti section: QUIET LIFE (FR, DE, FIN, GR, SE, EE) by Alexandros Avranas, AÏCHA (FR, TN, IT) by Mehdi Barsaoui, HAPPY HOLIDAYS (DE, PS, FR, IT) by Scandar Copti and WISHING ON A STAR (IT, SK, CZ, AT, HR) by Péter Kerekes. The film EDGE OF NIGHT by Türker Süer, also supported by Eurimages and co-produced by Germany and Türkiye, is part of the Orizzonti Extra section.
Finally, the two winning projects of the inaugural Eurimages New Lab Awards (Innovation Awards) have been selected as part of the section devoted to immersive media, which includes all forms of XR creative expression (Venice Immersive, Biennale College Cinema VR, Out of Competition): GARDEN ALCHEMY (DK, FR), in development by Michelle and Uri Kranot, and DUCHAMPIANA (FR, DE) directed by Lilian Hess.
