Albania’s Electoral College strengthens capacity for Election Dispute Resolution ahead of 2025 parliamentary elections

Members of Albania’s Electoral College participated in an important workshop aimed at enhancing their ability to resolve election-related disputes in preparation for the upcoming 11 May 2025 parliamentary elections. The event was organised by the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission and the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) managed project, Strengthening Elections Integrity in Albania, funded by the Federal Republic of Germany, in collaboration with the High Judicial Council.

The workshop's primary focus was aligning Albania’s practices with European and international standards and jurisprudence. It featured a series of interactive sessions, peer-to-peer learning, and practical case studies to address crucial issues, including the admissibility and motivation of decisions, deadlines, the introduction of out-of-country voting, and the potential cancellation of election results.

One of the key highlights was the examination of European Court of Human Rights case law and the application of past challenges within the Albanian context. The goal was to ensure consistency, fairness, and transparency in the resolution of election disputes.

This initiative reinforced the vital role of the Electoral College in safeguarding electoral integrity and upholding public trust in the democratic process. It also emphasised the need for continuous judicial readiness as the electoral landscape evolves.
