The Journalists Matter Campaign for the Safety of Journalists was presented during the launch of the new cooperation project “Supporting Freedom of Expression and Media in Georgia (SFEM-GE)”,in Tbilisi on 26 March.
The launch event of the two-year project addresses the freedom of expression needs outlined in the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2024-2027 and is in line with the priorities set for Georgia’s further integration into the European Union.
It brings together various governmental and non-governmental institutions, such as the Public Defender’s office, Communications Commission, Special Investigation Service, General Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the Media Advocacy Coalition and other representatives of civil society.
The Campaign's goals, scope, upcoming events, as well as steps for implementation were shared with the participants, including the project steering committee members, who will have a role to play in the implementation of the Campaign at the national level.
The Journalists Matter Campaign was among the topics discussed in a closed meeting of the project steering committee following the launch. The discussions focused on potential synergies between the Campaign goals and the project activities.
