The technical paper Mapping of international standards and monitoring and reporting obligations of Bosnia and Herzegovina on freedom of expression and information, provides an overview of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s reporting obligations in respect of freedom of expression (FOE) and freedom of access to information (FOI) under international human rights instruments and mechanisms, with accompanying observations in respect of BiH.
The fundamental international human rights commitments encompass the essential tasks of local monitoring and reporting. The incorporation of these responsibilities into international human rights instruments and mechanisms underscores a widely shared recognition that collecting, analyzing, and facilitating the examination of states' adherence to their substantive human rights duties is crucial for bolstering the safeguarding and fulfillment of these rights. Taking this into the account, the document is primarily intended to function as a basis for planning of various activities in the field, and to help in streamlining the work of the Working Group on monitoring and reporting on freedom of expression and freedom of information in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This technical paper is produced within the framework of the project ‘Enhancing institutional capacities on freedom of expression and information in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EFEx)’, that is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded through the voluntary contribution of Sweden, through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
