Youth workers, teachers, and educators from all regions of Ukraine are participating in a national training course on human rights education from 21 to 25 July 2024 in Lviv, the European Youth Capital of 2025.

This Compass national training course is organised by the Centre for Educational Initiatives, in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe and the European Wergeland Centre. The Council of Europe's project,  “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III”, provides expert support for this activity.

During this event, 25 practitioners will enhance their competences in education for democratic citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE) in formal, non-formal, and informal educational settings in Ukraine. Participants will plan future follow-up initiatives using the Compass methodology and explore the educational and financial opportunities provided by the Council of Europe Youth Department. These opportunities include the “Youth for Democracy in Ukraine: Phase III” project and the European Youth Foundation special call to support young people from Ukraine.

The programme provides a space to discuss the mutual implementation of  the Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with Natalia Radchuk, Head of the International Cooperation and European Integration Department, representative of Ukraine in the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ).

The Compass Training Courses are the integral part of the Human Rights Education Youth Programme  and play a central role in the implementation of the Council of Europe 2030 Strategy of the youth sector.
