Anti-rumours training course during the No Hate Speech Week 2024

On 18 and 19 June 2024, the Intercultural Cities (ICC) Programme welcomes a delegation of its city representatives to participate in the No Hate Speech Week 2024 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, including two half-day training sessions on anti-rumours.

Rumours, stereotypes and prejudices are the first step towards feeding hate, which may lead to hate speech and sometimes to hate crime. These training sessions are designed to give participants a better understanding of the anti-rumours methodology and how it can be used to counter hate speech.

In addition to the sessions organised by the Intercultural Cities (ICC) Programme, participants will be invited to stay for the other sessions planned on 18 and 19 June 2024 in the framework of the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Week 2024. Participation in  the activities planned on 20 June 2024 is possible, but costs will not be covered by the ICC Programme.

The Council of Europe No Hate Speech Week, 17-20 June 2024, is organised around the International Day for Countering Hate Speech (18 June). In 2021, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution which recognises the need to counter discrimination, xenophobia and hate speech and calls on all relevant actors, including states, to increase their efforts to address this phenomenon, in line with international human rights law. The resolution proclaimed 18 June as the International Day for Countering Hate Speech. The Council of Europe No Hate Speech Week 2024 aims to inform and facilitate peer-to-peer exchange of knowhow and practice and will therefore deploy a variety of methodological approaches under the theme: “Speak human rights, counter hate speech”.
