Conference on Support Services for Women Victims of Violence
(Strasbourg, 6-7 December 2007)
To take stock of support services provided by Council of Europe member states and to highlight the need for quantitative and qualitative standards for such services, a Conference on Support Services for Women Victims of Violence was organised on 6 and 7 December in Strasbourg. The Conference aimed at providing a forum for discussion on the different types of services needed by women victims of violence and the standards these services should embody.
Such standards are currently being prepared as part of a Council of Europe study on minimum standards for violence against women support services. Its preliminary findings and recommendations drawn up by Professor Liz Kelly presented during the Conference.
Focal points and high-level officials as well as representatives of non-governmental organisations invited to participate in this Conference were encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by contributing to the consultation process leading to the finalisation of the Council of Europe standards for support services in this field.
