Eurimages: Support to the Ukrainian Film Industry
In the light of the ongoing conflict, a series of special
measures to support the Ukrainian film industry
have been put in place by the Board of
Management of Eurimages.

2022 Special Measures
Two Eurimages Special Co-production Development Awards for Ukrainian filmmakers:
- CHERRY BLOSSOMS directed by Marysia Nikitiuk and produced by Igor Savychenko at the Sarajevo Film Festival (CineLink)
- WARRIOR to be directed by Masha Kondakova and produced by Valeria Sochyvets from Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema the TorinoFilmLab
Three bursaries for Ukrainian female filmmakers (two additional bursaries as part of the existing sponsorship agreement with the Nipkow Programm and one extra award as part of the existing sponsorship agreement with the Pop-Up Residency) which respectively went to:
- Hanna Bilobrova
- Tonia Noyabrova
- Maryna Vroda
Support for the promotion costs of two documentary feature projects:
- COMPANY OF STEEL directed by Yulija Hontaruk and produced by Babylon 13 Production
- MOUNTAINS AND HEAVEN IN BETWEEN directed by Dmytro Hreshko and produced by UP UA Studio, selected for the Ukrainian Institute’s proMOTION Programme. The Ukrainian Institute is a cultural promotional body, part of the Ukrainian Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Covering the fees for Ukrainian animator Oksana Kurmaz.
- Oksana is invited to teach during the Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs event, a workshop sponsored by Eurimages as part of its Gender Equality Action Plan.
In addition, the 2022 edition of the Eurimages Co-production Prize at the European Film Awards went to the Ukrainian members of the European Film Academy on behalf of the Ukrainian film production community.
2023 Special Measures
Three Eurimages Special Co-production Development Awards supporting 3 Ukrainian projects in the framework of the Rotterdam (CineMart), Berlin (Berlinale Co-Production Market) and Copenhagen (CPH:DOX/FORUM) co-production markets in 2023:
- MY MOTHERS to be directed by Marina Stepanska and produced by Esse Production House
- THE BLINDSIGHT by Ruslan Batytskyi to be produced by 2Brave Productions
- RED ZONE to be directed by Iryna Tsilyk and produced by Darya Bassel from the company Moon Man
Renewal of the three additional bursaries for Ukrainian female filmmakers as part of:
- Nipkow Programm
- Pop-Up Residency
- Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs event
Partnership with the Ukrainian Institute to fully support the 2023 edition of the proMOTION programme over the three annual calls for projects looking to boost their international promotional campaigns.
In the framework of the first call, two films were supported:
- WE WILL NOT FADE AWAY, by Alisa Kovalenko (which premiered at the Berlinale this year)
- LA PALISIADA, by Philip Sotnychenko (Fipresci award at IFFR this year).
In the framework of the second call, two films were supported:
- FOREVER, FOREVER, by Anna Buryachkova (Venice 2023, Orizzonti Extra)
- DEMIURGE, by Olga Semak (Galway Film Festival 2023)
In the framework of the third call, three films were supported:
- THE EDITORIAL OFFICE, by Roman Bondarchuk
- FRAGMENTS OF ICE, by Maria Stoianova
- A PICTURE TO REMEMBER, by Olga Chernykh
The Ukrainian Institute is delighted to announce the winners of the
second call for proMOTION 2024.
